Scott Styris Essex Shirt |
|
| Hello, We are writing to let you know of a great opportunity to own THE Essex Cricket Club shirt worn by Scott Styris in the T/20 game against Surrey on Friday 25th June. Scott has also personally signed the shirt. I am sure you will remember that exciting game when Scott scored over a century to win the match for Essex with just one ball to spare contributing to Essex’s progress into the semi-finals on Saturday 14th August and, fingers crossed – the final. This shirt is currently being auctioned on e-Bay until 12th August 2010. Just go to the e-Bay website https://shop.ebay.co.uk and type “Scott Styris Shirt” into the search box. Also a rare opportunity to own a souvenir mini cricket bat signed by all the Essex Team AND Scott Styris is also available, as is one of the match balls – also signed by Scott. All monies raised will benefit Home-Start Witham Braintree and Halstead, a registered charity who provides friendship, practical and emotional support for families with children under 5 years of age during periods of stress to help prevent family breakdown. Please let your members know and support us by placing your bids soon. Thank you. |

James bowled over by sports award |
|
Howzat! Cricket-mad James Lee has bowled over his local club by knocking up a half century of hours doing voluntary work with them.
James, 18, has been giving up his free time at Clacton Cricket Club, as part of a Sport England volunteer project.
Now he's scooped a bronze award for completing 50 hours at the club. James is the first Clacton Coastal Academy student to win the award.
"I thought it was a good way of giving something back to the club," he said. "There's always a shortage of coaches so helping bring up the next generation of players and coaches is a bonus."
"I helped with paperwork, so the senior coaches can help the children rather than do that and update the website with results, alongside some coaching myself. I am also there to help on match days with umpiring or scoring." He added: "It's a pretty good feeling knowing you have helped someone else." |

HELP YOUR CLUB |
|
YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU’RE HELP!
Clacton CC is your local club with a great history. We are proud of what we have achieved both on and off the cricket field BUT to continue to improve we need help. A club of our size needs to have more people take an interest in what we are doing and importantly what we can do to improve. Your current committee feels that unless we get significant help from other people associated with our club we will struggle to move forward.
We are looking for volunteers who would be prepared to be part of our committee – fresh faces that can bring forward new ideas and thoughts on how we can improve and most importantly be part of that improvement. Their always seems to be a number of people who have an opinion on what we, should be doing – can do to improve, from topics such as the club house, the youth section and of course general club activities etc. Your views are important to us BUT with only a small number on our committee that do any work at all we are struggling and we are collectively concerned that unless we get extra help all of the good work that has been done over numerous years will be lost.
Can you help raise money – organise fund raising, find sponsors – ANYTHING TO HELP OUR CLUB IS APPRECIATED.
We are looking for people that would like to get involved with our club and our ambitions for the future. We are a real community club which will see the benefit of your support directly. So please get in touch – WE NEED YOU!

New Season begins |
|
Clacton Cricket Club is looking forward to another successful season both on and off the field.
On the field Clacton CC are proud to introduce a few new faces to the club/team -
Tumi Masekela is our new overseas for the season.
Full name Lerutla Matheko Gershon Masekela
22 year old South African, who plays first class cricket for Northerns, the winners of this season one day competition in South Africa
Batting style Right-hand bat and Bowling style Right-arm medium-fast
Matt and Ben Foakes have joined Clacton from Frinton CC. Matt is currently at York University and will only be available from July. He is a very useful alround cricketer, medium pace bowler and strong batter who will bring some much needed experience into the side.
Ben his younger brother - is an outstanding wicketkeeper and strong top order batter. He is with Essex CC and is part of England u18s. A true young talent who will no doubt benefit from the experience of playing top cricket at Clacton.
Clacton CC, also welcome back Ben France - a player who is returning home to the club that gave him his first experience of premier league cricket. Ben has been a prolific wicket taker and run scorer and is a major part of Suffolk CCC minor counties set up.
Ben has fantastic pedigree and will bring allot of experience and style to the side.
Along with these new players Andy Turner is again returning to the side, clearly hoping to capitalize of the excellent season in 2009.
Clacton CC enter the new season with allot of optimism. Clacton currently runs 2 sides on both Saturday and Sunday. Martyn Cull has taken up the mantle of first team skipper and he, along with 2nd team captain Gary Kirk and 3rd team captain Ian Vine is looking forward to taking Clacton CC forward.
Martyn has been quoted as saying that – ‘We have a lot of good young players and the club expects these guys to step up and really make a difference to the teams that they play in’. ‘Michael Comber is a great example of a player coming through the Clacton youth section and now he is in the Essex 1st team squad. Ambition, drive and above all application will ensure that Clacton CC is once again a strong contender within all the leagues we play in’
We have an excellent and thriving colts section this year run by Jason Newland, Darren Critchel and head coach Mark Comber. 2010 will see this youth section increase its numbers and expand its horizons. We run 5 colts teams and have an u10 Jimmanie set up as well as this year launching a ladies/girls team. We provide superb coaching and provide all the gear for you to use – our coaching is fun and really great to be a part of.
Clacton is always looking for new players, either for the senior sides and or the youth section. We are the premier club in the area playing the strongest club cricket in Essex - a fact that sometimes goes without notice. We have good facilities and we are a great club to be part of.
Anyone wishing to join our club should contact Gary Kirk – email iftgk@aol.com. We would love to see you.

The Petchey Award |
|
CLACTON CRICKET CLUB Are proud to be part of
The Jack Petchey Award
Jack Petchey was born in 1925 in London's East End. After leaving school, he worked in an office for the equivalent of 62.5p per week! After the war, he set up his own car hire business which later developed into sales. By the late 1960's he had branched out into property development and became one of the country's leading entrepreneurs. He is still actively involved in business and charitable enterprises.
In 2004, Jack was awarded the OBE in recognition of his contribution to young people.
You can find out more at www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk
The Jack Petchey Foundation works to promote aspiration and achievement among young people by actively funding and supporting clubs, schools and youth organisations. Through the awards scheme clubs, schools and youth organisations are encouraged to recognize and reward the special endeavour and outstanding achievement of young people in the community.
Two people, between the age of 11 and 25, are selected every quarter (by the club coaches and managers of the youth section) and will receive a framed certificate and a grant for £300 which can be used to support any project as identified within our clubs wish list; for example, renovation of the old nets, money towards new covers or maybe a trip for a team to watch Essex play. It can literally be used for anything that will benefit the club and the community. This is an incredible award for our club and your input is vital.
There will be a roll of honor at the club and each winner will be announced at the club –
There is also a Leader Award – which we will be eligible for after 6 months of being part of the Jack Petchey Foundation. This is a nomination for one adult a year to receive £1000 for the club or community project.
The club already have a wish list of items they would like to invest in and this of course will be updated. If you feel that you have something that you would like to be put on the list please send you request to G.Kirk – iftgk@aol.com
